Gifu is famous for its Washi paper industry, which creates unique products such as lanterns and umbrellas. It’s also a center for the Japanese swordsmithing and cutlery industries. If you’re looking for a little more of the 21st century though, Nagoya is easily accessible to the south, and Gifu’s own premiere Gifu City is a center of great food and culture. For the ALT looking to live in an area that provides plenty of the past and the present, Gifu is a great place to go.
