English Language Centre Instructor (two posts)

The English Language Centre (ELC), with a strong commitment to quality learning and teaching, aims to enhance students’ communication skills, foster students’ independent, life-long English language learning and whole-person development.  The ELC is mainly responsible for offering English subjects for Language and Communication Requirements which are mandatory to all undergraduate students of the University, Discipline-Specific Requirements subjects tailor-made for more than 20 professional fields of the University’s programmes, and numerous electives designed to enhance students’ communicative competencies. It also coordinates a number of extra-curricular activities and workshops and provides diverse self-learning materials and counselling services through the Centre for Independent Language Learning.  The ELC currently has around 80 teaching staff members, with a group of about 25 technical, research and administrative personnel.  Please visit the ELC’s website at for more information.


The appointees will be required to:

(a)    teach a range of courses in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and communication skills for undergraduate students;

(b)    engage in teaching of other English language enhancement initiatives of the ELC;

(c)    participate in the pedagogical development and administration of the ELC’s teaching and learning activities, including promoting student language skills through technology-enhanced language teaching methods; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Centre or his/her delegates.


Applicants should:

(a)    have a recognised degree in a related discipline;

(b)    have a postgraduate teaching qualification;

(c)    possess at least three years’ post-qualification relevant teaching experience at tertiary level (experience in teaching upper secondary classes may also be considered);

(d)    be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching; and

(e)    be a highly proficient English speaker.

Preference will be given to teachers with experience or expertise in incorporating GenAI in language teaching, expertise in discipline-related English, digital literacies, blended and online learning, and assessment design.  Applicants should indicate in their cover letter how their qualifications and experience would enable them to effectively perform the duties of the post.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointments will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
